Description
Jimping refers to the process of adding small notches or grooves (jimps) to the spine of a knife blade or part, primarily to enhance grip and control, especially when the user's hands are wet or slippery. This service we utilize our proprietary methods to help you get a better grip! Best candidates for this service are blades or parts that have a smooth, flat, un-swedged spine. Knives that have a rounded spine should consider our File Carved Spine service.
Purpose: Jimps create friction between the fingers and the knife spine, preventing slippage and providing a more secure hold, particularly during tasks like chopping, carving, or skinning.
Location: Jimps are typically located on the spine of the knife blade, in the area between the handle and the sharpened edge.
Methods: Common, more traditional methods for adding jimping include using a bandsaw/file combination or a Dremel/file combination. Way of Knife & EDC Gear House utilize proprietary laser methods on this service.
Benefits: Improved Grip! Jimps enhance grip, especially when hands are wet or slippery. Better Control: A secure grip allows for more precise and controlled knife movements. Enhanced Safety: Reduced risk of slippage minimizes the risk of cuts or injuries. Lastly, Aesthetic Appeal: Jimps can also add to the visual appeal of a knife, making it look more rugged and functional.
Disclaimer: Like all refinishing and mod services, there are risks of cosmetic and/or permanent damage to the item. This service is done with aggressive laser settings that will remove material enough to create textured jimping and placed by hand and eye. Because of this and where jimping tends to be applied (on thin parts like blade spines) there's the risk that jimping bleeds or falls short of the desired target IE touching the blades flat or not filling the width of the spine. We take every precaution to place the jimping perfectly, but at the end of the day, we're only human. We encourage customers to add a blade finish when opting-in for Laser Jimping, as it helps clean the surrounding area as well as make everything look more uniform. In the event that you are concerned with how your jimping was applied, we will work with you to correct the services application to the best of our ability.

Perfect
They look great and they're rock solid. I was surprised by just how much the jimping improved the feel of my spydiechef.

Laser Jimping
Wow what an awesome job! I purchased a Smock but I’ve lost a lot of upper extremity strength and the flipper tab is too smooth. After their jimping I have NO ISSUES with the flipper. And the work looks very clean, like it was always there. It’s got the perfect jimping, very comfortable. I’m getting this on every smooth flipper. I strongly recommend. Service was fast and Way of Knife is efficient and respectful.
